The research vessel Natsushima is a marine survey vessel whose features include the 3,000-meter-class remotely operated vehicle Hyper Dolphin and Deep Tow, a deep ocean-floor survey system. The Natsushima was formerly the support vessel for the manned research submersible Shinkai 2000 until that vehicle was retired and replaced by the Shinkai 6500.
The Natsushima has performed many marine surveys, including surveys that have discovered wrecked ships.
Nippon Marine Enterprises was commissioned to operate and manage the Natsushima in 1980.
